Plans

Speeds, quotas, validity, FUP, night boost, priority and prices.

A plan is a package you sell. Every subscriber is on exactly one plan. For a custom deal, create a plan for it. A plan is either unlimited, and ends when its time runs out, or has a quota of data or online time, and ends when that is used up. The form asks one question per decision; switch to Sentences at the top to read and edit the whole plan as a few sentences instead. The preview beside the form shows how the plan works for a subscriber (on a phone, tap Preview). Most plans need nothing from Advanced.

Speed and burst

Download and Upload are in Mbps, from the subscriber's point of view. Answer No, full line speed for no limit at all. Turn on Burst to let a subscriber go faster for the first seconds of a download (For (seconds)), so pages open quickly without raising the sustained speed. Burst kicks in again once the average speed drops below the Starts below values; leave them on Auto unless you need other values. Burst works on MikroTik only.

Quota and duration

SettingWhat it does
How long does it last? The plan ends this long after the first login, so a "1 day" plan counts from when it is first used, not from when it was printed. Forever means no expiry: the subscriber stays active until you end them manually.
DataDownload and upload together, until the next renewal or usage reset.
Online timeTotal time online across all logins. Suits pay-per-hour hotspot packages.
BothA quota of data and online time. The plan ends at whichever runs out first.
Devices at onceHow many devices can be logged in with the same account together. Keep 1 for home plans so an account cannot be shared.

When the quota is used up, or the plan's time runs out, the subscriber is cut off, or moved to the isolation plan if the workspace has one.

Price and sales

Price is what you sell the plan for, in the workspace currency (set in the workspace Settings). It is optional and only used for your own books: the Sales tab adds up an estimate of what you sold. Mikrodius never charges your subscribers.

One sale is one access window a subscriber used, the same window Mikrodius charges your balance for: once they have been online 2 minutes or used 5 MB in it. A plan whose limits end before that (a 1-minute or 2 MB trial voucher) is never charged, and its sale is counted at the first login instead. See Billing and credits.

Fair usage policy (FUP)

FUP slows heavy users down instead of cutting them off. Answer yes to Use FUP? (in Sentences, add Fair usage (FUP)) and add up to 5 steps. Each step starts after an amount of data and either slows the subscriber down (Slow down to) or gives them another plan's speed, pools and attributes (Switch to plan). The highest step reached applies.

  • Counts: download and upload together, or download only.
  • Period FUP adds usage up over the plan period and starts again on renewal or a usage reset. Daily FUP starts again every day at 00:00 in the workspace time zone.
  • FUP works alongside the data quota, which still cuts off or isolates when it runs out, so every step must be below it.

When a subscriber reaches a step, online sessions get the new speed right away on MikroTik (other routers at the next login; a Switch to plan step always reconnects the subscriber), the subscriber shows an FUP badge, and the subscriber.fup_reached webhook is sent (see Connect your billing app).

Night boost

Night boost gives a different speed at set times, for example double speed from 00:00 to 06:00. Answer yes to Use night boost? (in Sentences, add Night boost). Add up to 4 time windows with the days they start on, and pick 2× speed or another multiple of the plan's speed, or Custom speed. Times use the 24-hour clock in the workspace time zone (type 0600 for 06:00), and a window may run past midnight. Online sessions change speed at the start and end of each window on MikroTik; other routers pick it up at the next login. Burst is off inside a window, and a reached FUP step wins over the boost.

The boost is saved as a speed, not a multiple. If you change the plan's speed later, open the plan again and save it to recompute the boost.

Priority and guaranteed speed

Under When the uplink is full: Priority 1 is served first and 8 last, so business plans can keep working when the uplink is busy. The guaranteed download and upload are the speed each session keeps even then (MikroTik limit-at), at most the normal speed. Leave them empty to share the uplink equally. MikroTik only.

Timeouts, pools and router settings

  • Session timeout ends a single session after this long; the device reconnects by itself. Idle timeout disconnects a session with no traffic.
  • IPv4 pool and IPv6 prefix pool name an address pool that already exists on the router. Leave them empty to use the router's own setting.
  • Router profile picks a PPP or hotspot user profile that exists on the router, and Address list makes the router add the subscriber's IP to a firewall address list, for your own queue or firewall rules. MikroTik only.
  • Custom RADIUS reply attributes sends extra attributes on login, from any vendor's dictionary: search by name or vendor. Use it to set speed on devices Mikrodius has no speed mapping for; see Supported devices.

Changing a plan

Changes apply to subscribers who are online right now. If only the speed changed, Mikrodius updates their speed without cutting them off. If a change means someone should no longer be online (a lower limit they have already passed, for example), they are disconnected. Changes to FUP steps and night boost windows reach online sessions within a minute.

Isolation plan for unpaid customers

By default, an expired, suspended or over-quota subscriber is refused. Many ISPs prefer to let them in on a very slow plan and send them to a payment page instead ("isolir"). Create a slow plan for this, then choose it as the Isolation Plan in the workspace Settings. Those subscribers then connect on that plan, and you redirect them with a rule on your router.
